The Green Commute Revolution: Hero MotoCorp Launches the All-New Flex-Fuel Splendor+

For decades, one name has stood unchallenged as the backbone of India’s daily commute: the Hero Splendor. It is the ultimate symbol of reliability, unmatched fuel efficiency, and a no-nonsense attitude toward everyday travel.

Hero MotoCorp just took its legendary commuter and catapulted it straight into the future. Unveiled ahead of World Environment Day by Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Hardeep Singh Puri, Hero has officially launched the Hero Splendor+ Flex-Fuel variant, alongside its sibling, the HF Deluxe Flex-Fuel.

This isn’t just a minor cosmetic update or a token sticker change. This launch marks India’s very first foray into mass-market, 100cc flex-fuel motorcycles, giving the average Indian rider a direct ticket to cleaner, cheaper, and more sustainable mobility.

What Exactly is a Flex-Fuel Bike?

If you have been tracking India’s automotive evolution, you know that the country has already shifted to E20 fuel (a blend of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol) across most retail outlets. However, a Flex-Fuel Vehicle (FFV) takes things much further.

The newly launched Splendor+ Flex-Fuel is designed to seamlessly run on any ethanol-petrol blend ranging from E20 all the way up to E85 (which contains a massive 85% ethanol and just 15% petrol). Whether you fill up with standard petrol or high-blend ethanol, the bike automatically detects the mixture and adjusts itself. You do absolutely nothing but ride.

What’s Under the Hood (or Tank)?

To make a legendary 97.2cc engine happily swallow alcohol-based fuel without throwing a tantrum, Hero’s engineering team at the Centre for Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur went back to the drawing board. They completely reworked 36 critical parts of the motorcycle.

Key Technical Upgrades Include:

  • Recalibrated ECU Map: A smart Engine Control Unit that automatically detects the exact ethanol percentage in the fuel tank and adjusts fuel delivery in real-time.
  • Upgraded Fuel Pump & Secondary Filter: Modified specifically to withstand and cleanly circulate higher molasses and ethanol concentrations without corrosion.
  • More Power on Tap: Ethanol burns beautifully. When running on E85 fuel, the engine actually gives you a performance bump, delivering 7% more peak power (8.4 hp) and 3% higher torque (8.3 Nm) compared to the standard model.

Styling, Pricing, and Features

Hero didn’t skimp on giving this eco-warrior its own distinct personality. The Splendor+ Flex-Fuel arrives in a striking Black with Lime Yellow graphics scheme that gives the classic silhouette a sharp, modern edge.

Priced at ₹82,810 (ex-showroom, Delhi), it sits at a very modest premium over the standard petrol model. For that price, you also get Hero’s patented i3S idle stop-start technology to maximize fuel efficiency, tubeless tires, a side-stand engine cut-off for safety, and a fresh digi-analogue instrument cluster.

Why This is a Massive Win for India

While luxury electric cars grab all the headlines, true environmental and economic impact in India happens on two wheels. The Splendor family represents the highest-volume commuter platform in the country. By targeting the mass market, Hero is democratizing green technology.

“If you want to make impact at scale, choose what sells the most.”

Harshavardhan Chitale, CEO, Hero MotoCorp

The real-world benefits of this shift are staggering:

  1. Cleaner Air for Our Cities: When running on E85, this bike cuts Carbon Monoxide (CO) emissions by an incredible 77%, Total Hydrocarbons by 14%, and Non-Methane Hydrocarbons by 40% compared to existing BS6 petrol models.
  2. Lighter on the Pocket: Ethanol is inherently cheaper to produce than petrol. As the government scales up the availability of E85 across fuel stations, the cost per kilometer for riders is expected to drop significantly.
  3. Boosting the Indian Economy: India currently imports roughly 85% of its crude oil. Transitioning to homegrown ethanol—derived heavily from sugarcane and agricultural waste—keeps billions of dollars within the country and directly fills the pockets of Indian farmers.

When Can You Get One?

The rollout will happen in phases to match the growing ethanol infrastructure. Deliveries are set to officially kick off in July 2026, with Delhi and select regions of Maharashtra serving as the launchpad markets. A nationwide expansion will follow shortly after as the country’s E85 pump network widens.

The Splendor has always been the vehicle that put India on wheels. With the launch of the Flex-Fuel variant, it is now poised to guide India toward a cleaner, self-reliant, and highly sustainable future.
