For nearly two decades, the name TSI Racing has been a whisper of “what could have been” in the halls of global motorsport. In 2008, they became the first-ever Indian team to compete in the World Rally Championship (WRC), setting a precedent for a nation obsessed with speed but often limited by geography.
Now, eighteen years later, the whisper has become a roar. TSI Racing has officially announced its return to the world stage for the 2026 WRC season, marking a pivotal moment for Indian motorsport and signaling a new era of global ambition.
The Dream Team: Mascarenhas and Karumbaiah
Leading the charge for this historic campaign is a duo that dominated the domestic circuit. Dean Mascarenhas, the 2025 Indian National Rally Champion (INRC), will be the man behind the wheel. Alongside him is his long-time navigator and 2025 Co-Driver Champion, Gagan Karumbaiah.
The pair earned their seats on pure merit, having swept the 2025 INRC titles with clinical precision. Mascarenhas now joins the elite company of Naren Kumar and Gaurav Gill as one of the few Indian drivers to take on a full, structured WRC program.
The Weapon of Choice: Ford Fiesta Rally3
TSI Racing will compete in the WRC3 class, a category designed for privateers and rising stars to showcase their talent on an even playing field. To ensure they aren’t just there to “make up the numbers,” the team has partnered with the legendary PH Sport.
| Partnership Detail | Specification/Role |
| Technical Partner | PH Sport (France) |
| Vehicle | Ford Fiesta Rally3 |
| Support | Full on-event servicing and operational management |
| Backup | Supported by Sidvin Energy Engineering |
PH Sport brings a pedigree that includes work with icons like Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier. For a young Indian team, this technical backing is the difference between a learning experience and a podium threat.
The 2026 Calendar: Starting with Fire
TSI Racing isn’t easing into the season. Their campaign kicks off with Rally Islas Canarias (Spain) from April 23–26. Known as one of the most technical and demanding tarmac events on the planet, the “Rally of the Canaries” will be a baptism by fire for Mascarenhas and Karumbaiah.
The decision to focus entirely on the WRC meant making a difficult sacrifice: TSI Racing will not participate in the 2026 INRC season. > “The WRC is not a one-shot effort; it is a process,” says Mohan Nagarajan, Chairman of Sidvin Energy Engineering. “We’ve spent seven years preparing for this. Dean and Gagan are ready to show the world that India produces world-class rally talent.”
Why This Matters for Global Rallying
The WRC has long sought to expand its footprint in Asia. With TSI Racing’s structured entry, the championship gains more than just a team; it gains a gateway to a massive, untapped fanbase in India.
For the team, the goal is simple but daunting: finish consistently, gather data, and climb the ranks. The WRC3 category is notoriously competitive, featuring hungry young drivers from Europe and South America. However, with the torque-heavy Ford Fiesta Rally3 and the strategic oversight of PH Sport, TSI Racing is better equipped than any Indian outfit in history.
The Road Ahead
As the team prepares to ship their gear to Spain, the weight of expectation is high. But for Dean Mascarenhas, the mission is clear. “This is a moment I’ve been working toward for a long time,” he shared at the team’s Bengaluru headquarters. “The WRC is the biggest stage in our sport, and we’re going there to give it everything we’ve got.”
Whether it’s the technical hairpins of the Canary Islands or the high-speed gravel of later rounds, TSI Racing’s return is a win for the sport. It proves that with the right backing and relentless talent, the road from the Indian National Championship can lead directly to the world stage.
